ABC has been pretty good to writer-producer J.J. Abrams, sticking with the critically adored "Alias" through constant plot overhauls and perpetually middling ratings. The network is hoping to keep that relationship going with the castaway drama, "Lost," Abrams' second pilot in development at ABC.

The network has ordered a pilot, plus six scripts from Abrams and Damon Lindelof (NBC's "Crossing Jordan"). Thus far, the network has only seen a detailed outline from the duo.

After a plane crashes on a deserted island, the survivors must learn to live together despite their inevitably disparate backgrounds.

"Lost" will be produced by Touchstone TV.

"We're excited about the kind of drama that J.J. and Damon will be able to do in this world," Touchstone TV President Stephen McPherson tells The Hollywood Reporter. "It's going to have Michael Crichton-esque elements of a thriller with strong characters. One of the biggest priorities in developing the piece is to have it done in a way that it can sustain over the long term as a regular series."

Abrams has also gotten a pilot commitment for an ABC bounty hunter drama which would star "Alias" co-star Greg Grunberg.

Also at ABC, the network has picked up "Kat Plus One," which comes from Greg Berlanti ("Everwood"). The series focuses on a wild twenty-something New York publicist who has to change her party girl ways when her sister and brother-in-law die and she gains custody of her five-year-old nephew.

In other pilot news, FOX has given a greenlight to "The Big Island," about the guests at a luxury Hawaiian resort and the staff who serve them. Peter Elkoff ("Mr. Beautiful") wrote the pilot and will executive producer with Kevin Falls ("The West Wing"). Peyton Reed ("Bring It On") will direct.
